Emergency Stop Switch
What is a mushroom emergency stop switch?
An emergency stop switch (often colloquially referred to as a “mushroom” or “mushroom button”) is a safety control device that serves to immediately put a machine or system into a safe state in the event of danger. It is characterized by its distinctive red, mushroom-shaped actuator on a yellow background, is mechanically interlocked, and has a positively driven contact break to ensure reliable shutdown.
What are the features of a mushroom emergency stop switch?
- Comprehensive compliance with standards and safety: The switch meets the highest safety standards (PLe/SIL 3) according to EN ISO 13850 and IEC 60947-5-5, as well as the strict requirements of cULus approval for the international market.
- Certified resistance: Thanks to protection classes IP67 and IP69K, the device is officially certified for use in dusty environments and for cleaning with high-pressure and steam jets.
- Forced-guided contacts: The mechanical design ensures that the circuits are safely disconnected when the button is pressed.
- Mechanical life (B10d): Designed for up to 1.5 million switching cycles, the device offers extremely high reliability over its entire service life.
What are the areas of application for mushroom emergency stop switches?
- General mechanical engineering: For securing stationary production machines and plant operating stations.
- Conveyor and logistics technology: Use on conveyor belts and automated storage systems for rapid hazard prevention.
- Food and pharmaceutical industry: The stainless steel versions (IP69K) are ideal for hygiene-critical areas where aggressive cleaning agents are frequently used.
- Packaging machines: Protection of operators in high-speed processes where immediate shutdown of the hazardous movement is necessary.
