Safety Rope Switches

What is a safety rope switch?

In industrial applications where the use of safety doors and emergency stop/emergency shut-off buttons is not possible, emergency stop/emergency shut-off rip cord switches offer an effective solution. These emergency stop/emergency shutdown ropes, in conjunction with pull-wire switches, enable large-area protection of hazardous areas.

The emergency stop/emergency shutdown rope is attached to the emergency stop/emergency shutdown pull-wire switch. A pull at any point on the tensioned rope or a rope break immediately triggers a machine stop. The safety status remains locked until the rope is correctly tensioned and the reset button is pressed. For maximum flexibility, variants for different rope lengths and models with integrated emergency stop buttons are available.

What are the features of safety rope switches of the ZL-series?

  • Safety shutdown: The system guarantees immediate machine shutdown in the event of pull-wire activation, wire breakage, or slack wire, in order to immediately defuse dangerous situations.
  • Mechanical locking: After activation, the device remains mechanically locked and can only be reset manually by pressing a button once the wire tension has been corrected.
  • Contact configuration: With three safety normally closed contacts and one normally open contact, the series offers redundant and reliable signal processing for the control circuit.
  • Long range: Thanks to support for rope lengths of up to 100 meters, even extensive plant areas can be completely secured.
  • Robust protection classes: With IP67 or IP69K enclosures, the hardware is optimally protected against dust, water, and aggressive cleaning agents in the chemical or food industry.
  • ZTK mounting and rope tensioning system: The combination of mechanical arrow indicators and a two-color status LED enables precise installation and immediate fault diagnosis directly at the system.

What are the areas of application for safety rope switches?

  • Conveyor belt systems and logistics centers: Employees can immediately stop the flow of materials in the event of malfunctions or accidents along the entire transport route, regardless of their current location on the belt.
  • Packaging and filling lines: In large-scale facilities, pull-wire switches protect personnel from being pulled into rotating machine parts or fast-moving transport chains.
  • Gravel pits and mining: The robust design withstands dust and vibrations, while ensuring the necessary safety in harsh environments on long conveyor belts.
  • Recycling and sorting plants: On open shredders or sorting belts, the rope enables a quick emergency shutdown if foreign objects become entangled or there is a danger to employees.
  • Automotive industry and manufacturing islands: Large robot cells or assembly lines are secured in such a way that the power supply is immediately interrupted in the event of unauthorized access or dangerous situations.
  • Food and pharmaceutical industry: The use of stainless steel housings (IP69K) ensures safety even in areas that are cleaned daily with high-pressure cleaners and aggressive agents.
  • Maritime applications and port technology: At loading stations or on ships, the switches secure large outdoor areas and are permanently resistant to the corrosive sea air.
  • Chemical industry: In potentially explosive or chemically contaminated areas, these switches offer a reliable emergency stop solution that remains functional even under high material stress.
  • Woodworking machines and sawmills: Here, they secure extensive cutting areas where conventional pushbuttons would be impractical due to chip formation or machine length.
  • Retrofit projects and modernization: Old industrial plants can be brought up to the current state of safety technology in a cost-effective manner and without extensive wiring by simply retrofitting a cable pull system.
